John Dancy is a native of Atlanta who has served in Atlanta as a police officer since 2009. When the Atlanta Police Department established a Community Oriented Policing Section, (C.O.P.S.), he was assigned to the unit within its first year of operation.
With a commitment to work with the youth in the City of Atlanta, his work as an advisor for the police department’s Explorer and Cadet Program provided him the time to work with students throughout the city who showed an interest in criminal justice. As the College Liaison Officer, he had the opportunity to engage with the young adults in the City of Atlanta through discussion panels and crime prevention outreach. In January 2018 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the field operations division.
Sergeant Dancy received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice/Homeland Security from Herzing University.
