The ICA invites full-time rising college juniors and seniors to apply for this paid, nine-week internship within the Education Department through the Studio Institute Arts Intern program.

The ICA is launching a new model for guided visits for visitors of all ages, as well as ways of working with teachers in 2023. The Tours and Teacher Programs Intern will work closely with ICA education staff on the implementation and evaluation of summer tours programming for youth and adult audiences at the ICA’s Harbor Shore Drive location and the ICA Watershed in East Boston. The Intern will also research and develop an online hub of resources for 2023-2024 school year exhibitions that thematically focus on the Caribbean diaspora for the educators who participate in guided and self-guided museum visits.

Over the course of the internship, the Tours and Teacher Programs Intern will gain experience and skills in gallery teaching, public speaking, art historical research, and program assessment. The Intern will also participate in the day-to-day operations of an art museum’s education department including attendance at inter-and intra-departmental meetings. This position will be 28 hours a week, 4 days a week.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Studying art history, studio art, arts education, or related course of study
  • Knowledge of contemporary art a plus
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching or facilitation and comfort with public speaking
  • Strong communication (written and oral), research, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in group settings
  • Spanish language fluency a plus

This internship will be 28 hours a week, Monday–Thursday and may include occasional weekend hours.

Interns will also complete the Studio Institute program in the duration of the internship, which includes 1 Educational programming day each week.
