The ICA invites full-time rising college juniors and seniors to apply for this paid, nine-week internship within the Education Department through the Studio Institute Arts Intern program.
The Education Intern, Family and Teen Programs will work closely with ICA education staff on the research, implementation, and evaluation of programs and resources for a range of learners, with a specific focus on family and teen audiences. Throughout the summer, the Intern will assist with public studio programming; events for teens and families, such as Teen Night, Play Date, and Watershed Block Parties; gallery resources for families; and other community outreach initiatives. The Intern will also conduct an assessment of the ICA’s current gallery resources for families, offer recommendations, and develop their own gallery resource guide for family audiences as one of their major projects.
Over the course of the internship, the Intern will gain experience and understanding in program development, facilitation, and evaluation with a range of audiences.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Studying studio art, arts education, and/or a related course of study
- Knowledge of contemporary art, a plus
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated interest working with family and teen audiences
- Experience or demonstrated interest facilitating studio-based workshops in visual arts to multigenerational audiences
- Knowledge of studio art media, materials, and processes
- Strong organizational skills; penchant for maintaining well-organized studio spaces
- Ability to solve problems with creativity and care
- Experience in customer service
- Ability to work independently to meet deadlines, as well as on a collaborative team
- Spanish language fluency, a plus
- Must have Saturday availability
- Must pass a CORI screening
This internship will be 28 hours a week and will hold a Tuesday–Thursday and Saturday schedule.
This internship will be in-person, on-site at the ICA. Occasional visits to community organizations with staff may occur. Interns will also complete the Studio Institute program in the duration of the internship, which includes 1 Educational programming day each week.
