Ruth Erickson, Mannion Family Curator, chats virtually with Rania Matar about the artist’s current Across the Window series of portraits taken in and around Boston during COVID-19. Born in Lebanon and based in Boston, Matar explores issues of personal and collective identity primarily through photographs of adolescence and womanhood. A professor at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and 2018 Guggenheim Fellow, Matar regularly teaches and lectures across the U.S. and abroad, has published several books, and has shown in museums including the Cleveland Museum of Art, where she had a mid-career retrospective in 2018.
