The Associate Director of Special Events will oversee and provide management of special events and programming within the Development department and will partner closely with the Deputy Director for Public Engagement and Planning on social, community, and partner programming and activations. The role encompasses the development and implementation of ICA events, social programming, vendor management, budgeting and invoicing, and visitor relations to meet and exceed institutional goals ranging from attendance and revenue, to visitor experience and engagement. This position is highly collaborative and interfaces with all museum departments and catering partner, The Catered Affair, to produce high quality events and programs. The Associate Director of Special Events will have direct supervision of the Events Coordinator. Evening and weekend work required. The Associate Director of Special Events contributes to a culture of collaboration, community, and respect and centers the work of Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion, and Belonging in all areas of their work. This is a full-time, salaried position.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the ICA’s fundraising events program, including the annual ICA Gala and Women’s Luncheon, partnering with the Development department and Production staff on concept, event and invitation design, programming, and event execution
- Oversee a robust calendar of 20+ cultivation, stewardship, and membership events including exhibition opening receptions and dinners and other special engagements
- Lead and execute partners, programs, and activations to build and deepen community relationships and expand and diversify audiences
- Partner cross-departmentally to craft engaging programming, including monthly First Friday events and summer engagements, with a goal to drive revenue, membership acquisition, and brand awareness
- Oversee all events budgets in Development, Membership, and Public Engagement
- Oversee the ICA’s internal event/building calendar
- Play a leading role at cross-departmental event, operations, and calendar meetings to keep internal teams informed, aligned, and efficient
- Manage one direct report (Events Coordinator) and lead cross-departmental teams on ICA events
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5-7 years event experience, museum or non-profit experience a plus
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Ability to work autonomously and with cross-departmental teams
- Strong creative skills with the ability to develop fresh concepts for both ICA donor events and public event programming
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to handle issues and challenges with extreme diplomacy
- Strong administration and budgetary skills
- Ability to work collegially, professionally, and collaboratively with a diverse group of constituents including staff, visitors, and vendors
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and use good judgement in responses
- Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative and proficiency at problem solving

Starting Salary/Compensation: $68,000.00 Annual
ICA Compensation:
Each ICA position has a job grade based on the position’s evaluated job responsibilities, required education and experience, needed skills to perform the job, and professional knowledge.
The position’s grade and respective compensation range is determined by the position’s overall responsibilities, including decision making, supervisory/management requirements, resource management and budgeting duties. Compensation is ultimately determined by the scope of the position and responsibilities, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity, with starting salaries typically falling in the lower half of the compensation range.
